4 tips for eating healthy while travelling

Car on a highway. Fuelled Nutrition

Being an entrepreneur myself, I usually travel a lot for meetings & field work and stuff. Being into fitness means there is 'always' one thing on top of my mind – DIET. When you think about eating while travelling, it can be a daunting task due to the lack of options available on road and other places. And the first thing that comes to our minds is “Shit, I’m gonna ruin my diet.”

Well, that does not have to be the case. But, for that we need to be prepared beforehand. Let’s see how we can do this.

  • Stop at good places

Make sure that you stop at places that have a good variety of options to choose from and not your random roadside shops. It’s better to eat stuff that fit within your calorie budget for the day.

By eating random items like fried stuff, you’re just leaving it up to fate and praying that you didn’t get overboard.

  • Drink more water

I know, you must be thinking “I don’t want to go to the restroom every 30 minutes.” But, drinking enough water will keep you feeling full for longer until you get to a place where you get cleaner options to eat.

Plus, when you’re dehydrated, hunger and cravings shoot up. You also feel tired & fatigued. Hence, by being moderately hydrated, you are making sure that you don’t give into those cravings and are high on energy when you reach your destination.

  • Focus on Protein

It’s usually easier to get a variety of options for carbs & fats even while travelling. Specially in our Indian food which is usually loaded with carbs and fats. On the other hand, it’s tough to find food options that are high in protein.

Carrying a scoop or two of whey protein with you is a great way to make sure that you’re hitting your protein target for the day. It relieves you of the unnecessary stress to find options that are high in protein only to realize that there are almost none when you’re on the road.

  • Carry some snacks

Snack attack. Yes, carry some snacks with you before you leave from home. This can be anything from protein bars to low calories chips to whatever you like and know will fit into your diet.

We all know, when hunger hits, it can make us go crazy. Hence, being prepared with something that we can eat and not feel guilty about is a great way to make sure that we don’t get off track

Conclusion

Being on the road itself is kind of tough. The last thing we need is to continuously think about what we have to eat. These 4 tips have helped me to stay on the road and still eat healthy and be in great shape.

Remember, you are in control and with a little planning, you can travel easily and avoid “Ruining your diet”.

So, plan ahead and enjoy your trip.
